Ways to Prevent Babies Born with Cleft Lips and Lelangit

Cleft lip and auctionite are craniofacial disorders whose causes are multifactorial.

This disorder occurs due to the failure of lip formation and auctioneite in weeks 4 to 6 of pregnancy. As a result, there is a gap in the baby's lips and lips.

We invite parents and the community to be able to recognize early so that people with lip and cleft palbite can get access to effective health services from an early age to get good results, not only aesthetically but also functionally, so that they can become more members of the community productive, said dr. Luh K. Wahyuni, SpKFR (K).

Dr. dr. Dwiana Ocviyanti, SpOG (K) as Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, advised every woman of reproductive age and pregnant women in particular, in order to reduce the risk of the baby being conceived with lip disorders and cleft palate auction, presumably paying more attention to nutritional intake during pregnancy, such as consume foods rich in folic acid, adopt a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy, avoid the consumption of drugs and alcohol and avoid smoking.
The existence of children with cleft lip and lipstick is one of the burden of health problems that are sometimes neglected. This is what underlies the establishment of the Cleft and Craniofacial Center (CCC) of the RSCM-FKUI and the commemoration of July as the Lip Awareness Month and Cleft Auction.

Head of the RSCM-FKUI Cleft and Craniofacial Center Special Services Unit, dr. Kristaninta Bangun, SpBP-RE (KKF) explained, the series of events was intended to increase public awareness of the condition of the lips and cleft auction and the consequences that could result.

So that this is expected to be able to help parents who have children with lip disorders and cleft palitites to get information and appropriate multidisciplinary management, he explained.

Closer, the Cleft and Craniofacial Center of RSCM-FKUI is a multidisciplinary service center for lip management and cleft auctioning and other craniofacial abnormalities. This unit is under the Reconstruction and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Division, Department of Surgery Medical Sciences, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, which provides a variety of services.

Not only surgery, but CCC also serves other therapies such as speech, eating and dental therapy by medical personnel who have been trained in their respective fields. The Cleft and Craniofacial Center RSCM-FKUI offers integrated services for sufferers of lip and cleft palate which includes early service, according to the stages of growth and development, multi- and interdisciplinary, as well as continuous.
